Northern Jazz on the Southern Coast
Leading figure and notable master of contemporary Nordic jazz, Mats Eilertsen, will perform with his longtime ensemble members at a concert held at Suda Stage, situated seaside at the festival center. Known for his warm and lyrical approach to the double bass, Eilertsen’s music is distinguished by clarity, eagerness, and a continual search for new sounds, balancing stability with experimentalism. In addition to his highly acclaimed recent album ‘And Then Comes The Night,’ Eilertsen has carved out a unique place in ECM recordings alongside artists such as Tord Gustavsen, Trygve Seim, Mathias Eick, Nils Økland, Wolfert Brederode, and Jakob Young. He has maintained various projects over the years, including this trio project.
Mats has recorded two albums with his trio; Harmen Fraanje on piano and Thomas Strønen on drums, their latest album “And Then Comes The Night” receiving critical acclaim. Eilertsen has also collaborated with artists such as Tord Gustavsen, Trygve Seim, Mathias Eick, Nils Økland, Wolfert Brederode, and Jakob Young for the prestigious ECM catalog, and continues to pursue various projects including the Mats Eilertsen trio.
